One of the biggest problems in waste processing is dust.

JettyRobot was approached by one of the most important waste recycling plants in Germany. Its plant uses the latest waste processing technologies to ensure high personnel safety while maximizing work efficiency.

One of the biggest problems in waste processing is dust. Dust can have a negative impact both on the health of the workers at the processing plant itself and on the surroundings of the processing plant. Therefore, hygiene regulations have been developed which set conditions for dustiness in such plants. If they are exceeded, the plant operator risks financial penalties and, in extreme cases, even suspension of operations by the authorities.

One of the key measures to reduce dust is the installation of a dust extraction ventilation system. The dust extraction ventilation system removes dust from both the technology and the surrounding areas in the hall. The dust-laden air stream is directed to a filter system where dust particles are captured and clean, dust-free air is leaving the building.

During the operation of the dust extraction system, dust particles gradually settle in some areas. The consequence of the settling of dust particles is a gradual reduction in the efficiency of the entire dust extraction system. Consequently, dust increases both inside the processing plant and in its surroundings and the limits set by the hygiene standards are endangered. The operator of the processing plant must therefore ensure regular maintenance of the dust extraction ventilation system.

The dust extraction system in the customer's processing plant was clogged and needed to be restored to its design efficiency. Due to the use of advanced technology in their operation, the customer was interested in using advanced robotic technology to clean the dust extraction system.

JettyRobot personnel performed an on-site inspection. The total length of the dust extraction system piping was approximately 250 m and consisted of a backbone line and individual branch lines leading to the process equipment. The pipe diameters ranged from 200 mm to 800 mm. Some of the pipes were more than half filled with debris and some were even completely blocked.

Based on the results of the on-site inspection, a detailed procedure for cleaning the entire system was proposed. The procedure was prepared in close cooperation with the customer and finally approved by the customer for implementation.

The actual cleaning was carried out by two teams of JettyRobot specialists. JettyRobot 6 and JettyRobot S robots were deployed. A combination of three different methods were used for cleaning - compressed air, dry ice blasting and brushing. The cleaning was carried out in 5 days and went without any complications.

Tests after successful cleaning showed that the airflow in the dedusting system was restored to design values. As a result, compliance with hygiene standards is again ensured and the result has a positive effect on the quality of the recycling process, the lifetime of the technology and, last but not least, on the reduction of operating costs.

The customer was very satisfied with the result and is planning to use JettyRobot technology for future maintenance.
