Dry Ice Blasting

The dry ice blasting method is used to remove a wide range of deposits, separating agents, contaminants, paint, oil, rubber or coatings. It is a safe and non-abrasive cleaning method ideal for use in many industries.

Dry ice is non-toxic, non-flammable, sublimates on contact with contamination and leaves no residue. When cleaning with dry ice, the surface to be cleaned will not suffer damage due to the use of chemicals or abrasives.

Due to the low temperature of the dry ice (-78.5°C), dry ice cleaning is also largely disinfectant.

How It Works

Dry ice blasting uses compressed air to accelerate solid carbon dioxide (CO2 ) pellets to high velocity. These then hit the target surface and, by harnessing the power of kinetic energy and rapid change of state, cause a so-called 'thermal shock' that releases the contaminants from the target surface. In contrast, hard abrasive media strike the surface and can damage it.

Carbon dioxide in all its forms is not poisonous. Dry ice is recycled CO2 , which is inexpensive and can be easily stored at workplaces. Dry ice pellets can be made on site or delivered.

Advantages of Dry Ice Blasting

  • Non-abrasive, non-flammable, non-conductive and non-toxic cleaning method.
  • Cleans most debris on site without time-consuming disassembly.
  • It is used to remove non-resistant deposits and contaminants without leaving greasy or sticky films.
  • It is used in a variety of general and specialized applications in domestic and commercial cleaning.
  • It is environmentally friendly without secondary contaminants such as solvents or abrasive media.
  • No damage to active electrical or mechanical parts, no risk of fire.
  • It can be used gently (removing smoke damage from book pages) or aggressively (descaling tools).
